Osteoporosis Treatment

What is Osteoporosis?

Bone resorption, also known as “osteoporosis”, is a disorder that occurs due to an excessive decrease in the amount of calcium in the bones. It is mostly seen in women after menopause and the most effective treatment method is regular exercise and vitamin D supplementation.

Our bones are structures with a high content of calcium. With advancing age, this amount of calcium decreases. But as a result of an excessive decrease in calcium, microfractures occur in the bones. These microfractures cause the bones to become weaker. Bone resorption seriously reduces the quality of life with the pain it causes. It also makes the person more vulnerable to fracture risk.

If, after taking the patient’s history, osteoporosis is suspected, the rate of calcium in the bones can be determined by a special screening method. With this scan, known as “Dual energy X ray absorptiometry”, or “DEXA”, the mineral density in the bones can be determined and osteoporosis can be diagnosed.

Osteoporosis can be controlled by changes in lifestyle in the early stages. The treatment process is focused on preventing the progression of the disease. Because it is not possible to completely prevent bone resorption.
